THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED bronte Restaurant Review:

It’s a new chapter in both dining and book shopping in Cleveland---a full restaurant in a vast bookstore. And it’s a good restaurant, too. brontë is part of the new Joseph Beth Book Store in Cleveland’s historic Shaker Square. Built in the 1910s, Shaker Square (which is more of a circle than a square) was one of the first shopping centers in the U.S. Its recent (and ongoing) total renovation has retained its charming Georgian architecture. The restaurant has done the same. The relatively small space feels bigger because of its high ceilings, yellow walls, and very large Georgian-style windows on two sides that overlook Shaker Square. A small, light wood bar separates the restaurant from a small coffee shop, which leads into the bookstore. The whole complex takes up nearly an entire quadrant of Shaker Square. The food is surprisingly good; the restaurant could hold its own even if it weren’t part of something else. A terrific appetizer is the grilled shrimp skewer---four large perfectly grilled shrimp with roasted red pepper, smoked red onions and roasted garlic purée. One of the more popular items is the roasted pork chop in a maple-apple glaze, with Dijon new potatoes and bacon-braised red cabbage. The glaze is a bit sweet, but the pork chop is excellent. We also liked the grilled Atlantic salmon, served with artichoke risotto and grilled spinach. Among the sandwiches, our favorite (so far) is the crab cake on wheat berry bread. It’s quite flavorful, and the bread gives the otherwise soft crab cake a satisfying texture. A nice selection of desserts is available from the case in the adjoining coffee shop. Service is friendly and efficient.
