Bunk Sandwiches Restaurant Review

: One of the first chefs to take sandwiches out of a ham-and-cheese rut, co-owner Tommy Habetz, a veteran of many fine Portland restaurants, pioneered the hefty, full-flavored versions that are now de rigueur throughout the city. This space, his flagship outpost named after William "Bunk" Moreland on the TV show “The Wire,” is in the gentrifying Central Eastside. Patrons can't get enough of the albacore tuna melt, a salty delight, and the meatball-Parmigiana combo. But without a doubt, the most popular sandwich is the fat-rich Cubano stuffed with slivers of roasted pork belly. Vegetarians will savor the daily seasonal special, such as roasted butternut squash with caramelized onions, Gruyère and leafy green arugula. There are plenty of innovative sides as well, such as mole tater tots. Other locations.
