If there were a category for suburban brewpub, the C.B. & Potts chains would exemplify it nicely. As expansive as the sprawling areas they call home, these massive, all-encompassing places offer a wealth of mainstreamy attractions for their Main St. clientele. If they’re a shade schizophrenic---equal parts dining room, brewpub and sports bar---visitors don’t seem to mind. They keep coming back for the menu of steaks, chicken and seafood, paired with better-than-average renditions of the usual brewhouse edibles. Enjoy them in the quieter dining area or soak up the sports buzz in the bar section, which gets a shade noisy at times. The beer list reflects the setting-professional middle-of-the-road brews a bit lean on style and assertiveness. Seasonal brews and cask-conditioned offerings are often a cut above their year-round peers.
