Cafe Amano Restaurant Review: Café Amano is situated in a redo of a bank building in downtown Elmhurst, and the atmosphere offers a welcome, sophisticated surprise. The menu features a slew of coffee creations, café-appropriate soups, sandwiches and salads, as well as an array of small plates served in a white tablecloth setting. Standouts include a flaky roasted red pepper napoleon layered with goat cheese mousse; Vidalia onion soup; and medjool dates wrapped in bacon and stuffed with spicy chorizo. You’ll like the niçoise baguette, served open-face with albacore tuna, hard-boiled eggs, haricots verts and greens with kalamata olives and zingy lemon vinaigrette. There's also a big selection of fruit tarts and gelati. Wines on the tidy list can be had by the glass or bottle.
