| A relaxed attitude combined with a sleek interior help make Café Maritime a neighborhood favorite that also serves some of the best seafood in town. Don't miss the lobster roll---Maine lobster mixed with mayonnaise and stuffed into a New England-style bun that has crust-less sides perfect for slathering with butter and toasting golden brown. The signature seafood chowder smacks of smoky bacon and is full of fresh clams, mussels and fish. Crab cakes are another standout---no filler, just moist crab topped with a roasted salsa of fresh corn and delicious avocado-Dijon guacamole. Fish lovers should try the crisp-skinned Idaho trout with rock shrimp-avocado relish and the delicate, flaky California sea bass on a bed of saffron couscous. Even the house salad rises above the average, replacing the typical lettuce and croutons with crisp seasonal vegetables and bite-sized lobster salad toast. A well-stocked shellfish bar features wonderfully briny littleneck clams and local offerings like Hog Island oysters and Dungeness crab. Combination seafood platters present an excellent way to sample what's on ice that day. It's not on the menu, but regulars know to end the meal with a heavenly slice of Mom's coconut cream pie. |
