| There is a perpetual, never-ending line of people waiting outside Café Maspero, regardless of the mediocre experience awaiting them inside. Pastrami and corned beef sandwiches are on the greasy side. Better fried-seafood platters can be found all over town. The gigantic rolls are flavorless, and the half-pound hamburgers are long on heft and short on taste. After a half-hour wait in the queue outside the door, you may be mystified by the popularity of this huge sandwich shop, unless your criterion for dining is the price per pound of food. Try to get everything you can from your server the first time around, because chances are he or she may not be back for a long time. There is no dessert available, and the wine list is ordinary. |
