| The notion of non-punitive hospital food is radical, but the cafeteria of the downtown Nix Hospital actually has quasi-gourmet goals, and the fare seems to be converting the captive clientele---along with the occasional drop-in with no maladies that need ministering to. This is thus a word to the wise (and the cost-conscious): Give it a try---especially if dining with doctors in scrubs and maintenance men in overalls appeals. A hot chicken Ranch sandwich may seem old-school, but don’t knock it; tomato Florentine soup, when available, is full of flavor; and other dishes such as chicken Cordon Bleu and blackened red snapper, accompanied by herbed potatoes or Parmesan tomato, are actually restorative. |
