Cafe Ragazzi Restaurant Review: This Surfside neighborhood restaurant has grown up: An expanded space has let some much-needed air into the hitherto noisy and cramped, but always festive, trattoria. Dive into deep bowls of surprisingly sophisticated homemade pastas like raviolini di vitello (spinach pasta stuffed with veal mousse in a sage-seasoned light cream sauce). Seafood and fresh porcini mushroom risottos are also done well, almost always demonstrating the proper naturally creamy spreading texture (as opposed to the all-too-often-encountered clumping mountain of rice). A simple, lightly breaded calamari and zucchini fritti, served with spicy fra diavolo sauce rather than the usual marinara, is a spirited starter, and for meat-lovers, osso buco, though not always available, is a worthy rendition. Warmly friendly waiters almost obsessively tend glasses, assuring that nobody thirsts for either water or Chianti or another of the decent Italian wines available by the glass. |
