Cafe Tandoor Restaurant Review: Along with spicy aromas, the well-appointed dining room at this Westside version of an Eastside classic is filled with plants, artwork and soothing shades of teal and plum. The menu emphasizes the richer, less fiery dishes. Start with the onion pakora, a fancy name for Indian-style onion rings. The traditional pre-dinner bread is especially good; choose the garlic naan (brushed with butter), onion kulcha (bread stuffed with onion and spices) or any of a half-dozen other varieties and wrap it around some of the sweet mango chutney. Main courses like spicy tandoori lamb chops and juicy chicken tikka masala are rendered all the more appealing by the addition of delicately flavored saffron rice. Expect a vast menu of vegetarian dishes, including malai kofta (ground paneer and potatoes shaped into balls, served in a cashew and onion sauce) as well as dal maharani (creamed lentils with ginger, garlic and onions). A serviceable wine list and full bar are available. |
