| Francis Ford Coppola is seen so often sipping wine at a sidewalk table in the café of the historic Sentinel building that it has been referred to as his personal café. And it actually is since he owns it and the American Zoetrope production company housed upstairs. It's nowhere near as fancy as Coppola's co-owned Rubicon. The menu of pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and small plates conspire to create a vaguely rustic, vaguely Italian menu. The small plates menu requires guests to punch small holes in a small menu card denoting which small plates like prosciutto, cheese or olives they would like. Spaghetti with meatballs (Francis' own recipe) is more American Italian while crisp-crusted no-sauce pizza Sofia boasts a sophisticated mix of arugula, prosciutto and Parmesan. A heated terrazzo sidewalk and a bright red heated canopy make the outdoor seating fun for people watchers. The extensive wine list offers selections by the glass, flights of wine and bottles. |
