 Those seeking a nostalgic, home-cooked meal, minus the comfort of home, need turn no further than this eclectic downtown eatery. The cafeteria concept is in name only---there are no compartmentalized metal trays, hairnet-wearing servers or Jell-O desserts. In fact, the space has a contemporary, urban vibe, with polished wooden floors, stainless steel accents and a dining room opening to a cozy street-side patio. The restaurant’s name is emblazoned in Broadway-esque lights in the rear, and an oversize model airplane dangles in the center of the dining room. The menu is just as quirky, inspired by down-home favorites. Small plates include patty melt sliders on rye bread, stuffed peppers with goat cheese and the popular Hangtown Fry---eggs, bacon, potatoes and oysters. Entrées include a grilled pork chop with maple glazed sweet potatoes, braised beef short rib and barbecued pulled pork sandwich. Take advantage of the daily Blue Plate Specials, which includes Salisbury steak on Tuesdays and chicken potpie on Thursdays.
