| In the heart of downtown Oakland's business district, workers pop into Caffè 817 each morning for espresso and poached eggs. Many return later in the day for fresh sandwiches crafted with Hobbs meats, including our favorite, the PLT: crispy pancetta, lettuce and tomato stacked on an Acme bun. Yes, it's a sandwich shop, but owners Scott and Emily Goldenberg still look to the seasons and think big when devising such creations as a roast beef, shallots, horseradish and crème fraîche sandwich and baked eggs in polenta with chorizo-tomato sauce. |
