California Café was one of the first Silicon Valley restaurants to tap local sources for fresh ingredients at their prime. Small plates include a mushroom bisque, spicy tuna tartare and Chinese spareribs. Among main plates, you might encounter roasted petrale sole and a chipotle pork chop. There are also a number of gourmet pizzas and salads. Perhaps too harsh, but I've been going to CA Cafe for 20+ years. Got there with the family at 6pm for Christmas eve dinner. Waited 15 minutes before we even had someone come by the table, and it was the Exec Chef (nice and pleasant guy). We got our waters and menus 5 minutes later. I ordered a steak dish medium well and came to the table seared. The salmon and lamb were fine. For dessert, I ordered coffee, but didn't get the cream or sugar I requested. For the price of the meals and the reputation, they didn't even come close to delighting us. The biggest disappointment was that we were looking forward to a nice dinner with nice ambience to spend Christmas Eve with the family. We did have a good time being together last night though.
