California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Review: We have not once been disappointed by CPK. The list of more than two dozen pizzas includes all the standards (your choice of original crust, crispy-thin or honey-wheat), but there are also inventive versions like wild mushroom, Jamaican jerk chicken and B.L.T. habanero carnitas --- complete with mayonnaise, slow-roasted pulled pork and house-made cilantro pesto. Our favorites are the roasted garlic chicken, roasted artichoke and spinach with its garlic-shallot butter, and the barbecued chicken, the most popular of the pizzas. If you can tear yourself away from the pies --- we almost never can --- try one of the pastas, like kung pao spaghetti with garlic, green onions, peanuts and piquant red chilies. Salad portions are large, so keep in mind that you can get a half-order. (Or, if you’re tossed between salad and pizza, don’t compromise, get the tricoloré salad pizza.) There’s also a short list of “Small Cravings” (Korean barbecue steak tacos, anyone?). Soups, appetizers, sandwiches made with good hearth-baked focaccia, tacos and filling desserts, such as luscious red velvet cake, round out the menu. Smoothies and tropical drinks add to the fun (and in case you want to work, there’s free WiFi).
