 It’s funky; it’s run-down; it’s been here forever; but if you want a deli sandwich, a bowl of chicken soup and a pickle at 3 a.m., there’s always Canter’s. Regulars swear by Canter’s in-your-face waitstaff, gargantuan sandwiches of deli meats and fresh rye bread and the tempting bakery you can’t walk past without getting a little something. What a ploy, having that filled-to-the-brim bakery case front and center---customers walking in, out or by always turn toward the array of Jewish pastries, cookies, brownies, cakes and breads. If nothing else, Canter’s deserves praise for staying open 24 hours a day and satisfying any type of craving. The adjoining Kibitz Room is a popular spot for live music. |
