Carriage House Restaurant Review

: Low country boils and bourbon-based cocktails are the name of the game at chef Mark Steuer’s (The Bedford) Wicker Park restaurant. This bright and cheery, one-room spot with floor-to-ceiling glass walls overlooking Division Street brings together groups at bare wooden tables for sharable plates. We suggest the skillet cornbread, slightly sweet with a crusty bottom and buttery top; creamy shrimp and grits; and the oyster dish, whatever version is available. Get the warm beignets for dessert. Drinks-wise, there’s a distinctive take on the classic New Orleans Sazerac with absinthe and homemade demerara syrup, as well as a new twist on the Old Fashioned, almost cherry-like in taste with Scarlet Ibis rum, fresh orange, aromatic bitters and allspice.
