| While Tucson is known for its array of good Mexican restaurants, Casa Vicente offers a totally different take on Latin cuisine. Owners Vicente and Marita Sanchez have transported a taste of Vicente’s native Spain to The Old Pueblo. Every meal starts with irresistible fried potatoes, tater bites fried and served with a house aïoli and pepper sauce. The list of tapas is long and varied, but our favorites include the tortilla de espinacas, where Tucsonans learn that a tortilla isn’t always a tortilla (here it is a frittata). Another fave is the croquettes de jamón, creamy, crunchy, salty bites of ham and béchamel. At lunch, served on Thursdays and Fridays, we always order the calamares rebozados sandwich, popular on the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. If you want the paella, it’s best to put your order in a couple of days ahead and bring plenty of friends. A sip of port after dinner is a nice touch, and Flamenco dancing and music are often part of your evening; if you feel adventurous, tango lessons are given on Wednesdays. |
