It’s Sunday morning, and it looks as though everyone in Washington has turned up for brunch at Cashion’s. It’s usually a hip and friendly crowd sharing boisterous laughter, although solo patrons also seem to feel at ease as they enjoy their morning paper and coffee. The small dining room and bar fill up fast except in warm weather, when large French doors are thrown open to the fenced-in front patio. The robust brunch menu features the usual eggs and omelets, plus the less usual croque monsieur, grilled rainbow trout and a grilled pork chop with grits. At dinner, the menu offers truly trendy dishes: roasted quail stuffed with fennel and pine nuts or buffalo hanger steak with Yukon gold mashed potatoes. The menu changes daily so don’t fall too much in love with the spit-roasted leg of lamb---it might not be there next time. Cool jazz, good food and a neighborhood atmosphere make Cashion’s a must.
