It is almost hard to believe you are in the frenzy of the Disneyland Resort experience when you sit in the quietly charming second-floor main dining room at Catal Restaurant. Managed by chef Joachim Splichal and his Patina Restaurant Group, Catal serves up rather healthy breakfasts and Mediterranean-inspired dinner experiences. Chef Nicholas "Nick" Weber oversees the kitchen, using mostly fine seasonal ingredients and executing complex flavors. The short breakfast menu covers most tastes and time constraints with an express meal of a roll and coffee or something more sophisticated like buttermilk pancakes with marinated berries and vanilla-scented whipped cream. At dinner, start with some items from the tapas menu to feed the entire table, like a selection of marinated olives, a plate of fine Spanish charcuterie or some imported cheeses. Next, refresh your palate with the endive salad, which comes dressed with Fourme d'Ambert blue cheese and candied walnuts. Entrées are hearty renditions of Mediterranean favorites such as rotisserie chicken, fresh seafood and four kinds of steaks. Because this is Downtown Disney, there’s a special kid’s menu available, and servers are super friendly. Uva Bar, located downstairs, is more of a scene than a culinary destination, and offers a tapas menu with Spanish-influenced soups, salads, sandwiches and seafood. |
