Char Koon Restaurant Review: On its menu, Char Koon proudly, though somewhat understatedly, says of its Asian food: We are different. Indeed, this pocket-size restaurant is one of the area's most different restaurants (owned by Eric Leong of Spice Market Café in Simsbury). Although some familiar Cantonese and Szechuan staples appear on the menu, to order them would defeat the purpose of exploring said differences, in the form of the exotic and seductive Malaysian, Thai, Indian and Vietnamese dishes. Their flavors are as bright and vivid as they are varied. Noodle preparations are among the kitchen's best and most unusual offerings; we like the skinny rice noodles stir-fried with shrimp and calamari in blue ginger sauce as well as the classic pad thai. |
