Chau Chow City Restaurant Review: The first two floors of Chau Chow City showcase floppingly fresh seafood, from fried spicy squid to ginger and scallion boiled conch; the third floor serves that endless edible stream-of-consciousness treat known as dim sum, from the basic (shrimp dumplings) to the exotic (duck's feet; snails swimming in garlicky broth). Think of Chau Chow City as a warehouse (in need of some updating) for the chow mein set. We say head for the seafood and mainly the house specials, like the sizzling satay seafood kebabs. Scallops are a plate of beauty when served in their shell, swimming in a black bean sauce. Diced pork with cashews pairs with a savory sauce. Deep-fried stuffed bean curd and beef fried rice are worthy diversions from the swimmers. And speaking of diversions, this is a good spot to people-watch --- the crowds swarm here in the wee hours after the clubs close. |
