| With its fanciful décor and dressed up American comfort food, Chez Zee draws diners from all walks of Austin life. Twilight happy hour specials, glimmering lanterns, and live piano music make dinner a romantic but festive affair and addictive appetizers like fried dill pickles and chicken beignets with Dijon dipping sauce are designed with the hungry Southerner in mind. When embarking on a multi-course meal, include one (or more) of the bistro's "Pastabilities" and grill specialties, such as Gorgonzola jalapeño linguine and double-cut pork chop topped with a braised fig reduction. Those hungry enough may steer directly to the “best of” platter, featuring a petite filet mignon, smoked pork tenderloin, a southern-style crab cake and sundry side dishes. On weekend mornings, sunlight and groggy patrons stream into Chez Zee for brunch dishes that always include complimentary croissants and strawberry butter. The signature crème brûlée french toast is as delightfully saccharine as it sounds, though waiters are correct in claiming that those devoted to savory are better served by the lobster eggs Benedict. The bakery is often a destination in its own right, with its twists on a large number of American classics, and some new concoctions altogether, like the Kahlúa crunch pie or double chocolate gooey butter cake. |
