THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chinoise Cafe on 45th Restaurant Review:
The cafe's deep cherry-red walls, whimsical fish artwork, and huge, light-filled windows create a cheery dining atmosphere. The reliable menu offers all manner of Asian cuisine from Vietnamese salad rolls and Japanese sukiyaki to Thai curries, Chinese stir-fries and noodles. The printed menu features staples, but the daily specials on the back page is where you'll find lightly seared sashimi-grade tuna treated to a peppery coriander-cumin-garlic rub; tataki salad (seared butter-soft albacore, blanched baby bok choy and onions in cilantro-basil vinaigrette); grilled yellowtail cheeks; and ankimo (steamed monkfish liver). This is also a good place to visit for one sushi delight after another, from tender broiled eel (unagi) to silky silver-skinned Japanese mackerel (aji) to rainbow rolls. Green tea ice cream is a dessert option but the tempura fried bananas with coconut ice cream is also good---plus it's sizeable and perfect for sharing.
