Chouchou Restaurant Review:

The lights are dim. The service is attentive. And the food is plentiful. This East Village Moroccan restaurant is a pleasant place to spend a few hours in the evening. Just don’t be alarmed by the sticker shock of the menu. The prices appear high but the server will quickly explain that each entrée comes with ample amounts of side dishes. So $40 for a tender lamb tagine might seem outrageous. Not so when it’s preceded by bowls of chickpea salad, chunky tomato-harissa sauce with pita bread, and other delights. You just have to choose if you want a tagine (lamb, chicken, lobster) or couscous, a large plate of the North African grain along with your choice of meat. The dessert selection only consists of an “oriental pastry,” but you might be too full anyway. The wine list focuses mostly on France and offers a few good selections in the $40-$60 range per bottle.
