| By day, this casual-yet-sleek Euro bistro is filled with light from big pane windows, and its outdoor seating draws a number of diners happy for the opportunity to have lunch alfresco. In the evening, the lights dim and candlelight dances off the cozy rows of couples seated in cool modern chairs over contemporary wood tables. The cuisine is hearty and straightforward, primarily French by way of California. An unexpected treasure is an exciting wine list comprised of smaller-quantity and lesser-known labels, so let your server suggest pairings to get the most out of your meal. The appetizers are appealing, and a standout is a cool and creamy tower built with chunks of Dungeness crab, celery and avocado with a frilly hat of frisée. Entrées may lean towards the light, like steamed salmon and an herb-stuffed chicken breast, while a few dishes like duck breast and chicken arrive with sweeter sauces that would benefit from more nuance. Desserts include a groovy floating island, the Serge Gainsbourg of desserts, which like his music, is a little sloppy with its small sea of thin custard sauce, but fun and flirtatious. |
