City Delicatessen Restaurant Review: Located in the heart of Hillcrest, this deli stays open late, late, late, just in case you need a fat slice of cheesecake to soothe a bad case of unrequited love, or a big plate of french fries to prevent the next morning’s hangover. Owner Alan Bilmes, a New Yorker, has made sure the menu is full of New York deli-style sandwiches, like corned beef on rye, pastrami, chopped liver and knockwurst Reuben, all with juicy Kosher dills on the side. There's also Southern fried chicken and braised brisket of beef smothered with mushroom beef gravy. Open since 1984, City Deli is still packed daily with locals enjoying the home cooking. |
