Creamy oyster stew---rich with smoked bacon---oysters on the half shell and fish tacos served with refried black beans are among the highlights of the varied menu. The rest of the selections bounce from a classic, steakhouse-style Maytag iceberg wedge to a homey chicken potpie. There’s always a block party on First Fridays in the Crossroads, and the bar at City Tavern is a terrific place to begin the fiesta. Try a couple of oyster shooters, oysters floated in a shot glass full of vodka, spicy cocktail sauce and horseradish. The patio, which faces Union Station and the renovated Liberty Memorial, is one of the loveliest places to fritter away a summer evening. Do try the oysters for a buck at the bar during happy hour, Monday through Friday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
