Clarke's Restaurant Restaurant Review: The atmosphere at this neighborhood establishment reflects the formal dining room as well as the "bar grub" menu. Many of chef Jonathan Clarke's more elegant creations --- Northwestern with continental touches --- are intriguing and executed with considerable flair. His seafood risotto, rich with shrimp, lobster and tomato coulis, is buttery and unctuous, while the veal scaloppine in a wild mushroom sauce is alone worth the drive. Beef bourguignon is satisfying on a cold night, razor clams are enjoyable whenever available, and vegetarians always have a tasty choice, such as stuffed delicata squash. Begin your meal with the classic Caesar salad, and be sure to save room for one of the rich, imaginative desserts, which might be chocolate banana bread pudding. The wine list has plenty to choose from, especially among regional labels, and there are also fun cocktails. |
