Colonie Restaurant Review:

Brooklyn Heights can feel like a desert for lovely restaurants. But Colonie is an elegant spot, where the space is replete with a garden in full bloom on one wall and the food is thoughtful and satisfying. If you’re free in the early evening, sit at the handsome, long bar and partake of the dollar raw bar happy hour. A dozen oysters and sweet prawns are even better with a glass of bubbly rosé from the French Jura or a vivid green Cool Hand Cuke cocktail, shaken with organic cucumber vodka, elderflower, mint and lime. If the farm-to-table trope feels a bit tired, especially in Brooklyn, let an heirloom tomato salad with torn sourdough and luxurious, milky stracciatella cheese remind you why super-fresh veggies served right never gets old. Chicken liver pâté with fennel marmalade is a little addictive, and the grass-fed burger, topped with bacon and a fried egg on a potato milk sesame roll, is even more so. Next, keep it local and explore American artisan cheeses from Saxelby Cheesemongers. For dessert, go sugary with sticky date cake, paired with a heaping mound of salted crème fraîche gelato.
