 Comfort Restaurant Review: Hip and upscale yet down-home, Comfort captures today’s casually chic, succor-seeking cosmopolitan zeitgeist. Its clean, near-Shaker décor lets top-quality ingredients and well-prepared dishes stand out. Roasted chicken, meatloaf and grilled pork chops, sided with mac ‘n’ cheese, squash casserole and creamed spinach (a series of prices next to each entrée refers to how many sides you choose with it), embody all the honest goodness of mom’s but are seductive enough to have been made by a girlfriend who knows her way around the kitchen. Desserts, too, pinpoint the nexus between haute and heart as in banana crème brûlée pudding. Two pages of whiskeys, Irish, Scottish but mainly made-in-the-USA, are all the comfort some might need. Owners Jason Alley and Chris Chandler shunned more established, trendy neighborhoods and banked on pre-renaissance Jackson Ward, which suits their concept…comfortably. |
