Comfort Restaurant Review:

Hip and upscale yet down-home, Comfort captures today’s casually chic, succor-seeking cosmopolitan zeitgeist. Its clean, near-Shaker décor lets quality ingredients and well-prepared dishes stand out. Selections have included roasted chicken, seared trout and pulled pork barbecue, sided with squash casserole, braised greens and fried okra (a series of prices next to each entrée on the daily-changing menu refers to how many sides you choose with it, or get a vegetable plate). The “supersecret” surf ‘n’ turf comprises a slice of meatloaf and a crunchy, soft crab in-season. Desserts, too, pinpoint the nexus between haute and heart, as in banana crème brûlée pudding. Two pages of whiskeys, Irish, Scottish but mainly made-in-the-USA, are all the comfort some might need. Creators Jason Alley (also of Pasture) and Chris Chandler shunned more established, trendy neighborhoods and banked on pre-renaissance Jackson Ward, which suits their concept…comfortably.
