Coopers Hall Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant and décor: Housed in a former auto body repair shop in the neighborhood rapidly becoming Portland's artisan food hub, Coopers Hall is dedicated to keg wine production. A multi-functional, no-nonsense Quonset hut encompasses the winery, dining room and bar, along with a loft looking over the action. Without barriers between the dining and working areas, the environment is informal, lively, and infused with an upscale vibe. Choose an intimate table for two or join a gang at several large picnic tables situated next to garage door windows.

About the wine: There’s a comprehensive on-tap wine program, and the wine selection is interesting in both substance and descriptions ("brooding," "high energy"). Order by two-ounce pours, glasses or a carafe. But we recommend the four-pour flights as the best value. Like the wines, the menu is carefully curated and every bit as appealing.

About the food: Cheese and charcuterie are plentiful, but you'll also find salads, sandwiches and mains such as rotisserie chicken, vegan risotto and roasted king salmon. Even the french fries shine, enhanced by a citrus-flavored dry rub. End the meal with brioche doughnuts. Coopers Hall is a popular place for private events, so check the web site before dropping by.
