| Since 1913, the Karandzieff family has served ice cream, chocolate and lunch to everyone in this very old North Side neighborhood: politicians, police officers and Sunday school classes, to name a few. It’s a soda fountain in the old-time sense, specializing in elaborate sundaes and rock-solid ice cream sodas. Don’t miss the banana malt, served in a giant, footed glass and accompanied by a second serving, straight from the metal container where the all-natural ingredients came together. Before you’ve had time to fill up on the malt, your sandwich will arrive (the BLTs are first-rate). There are house-made chocolates as well. The décor is authentic, with two rows of tiny wooden booths and a well-stocked candy counter right by the door. |
