THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Crown & Hammer Restaurant & Pub Restaurant Review:
With its tightly packed booths and outdoor tables that overlook the Farmington River Trail, the Crown & Hammer is certainly snug and inviting. But it simply tries to do too much---or at least too many of the wrong things. The menu is surprisingly sophisticated, but the kitchen largely fails to deliver on its intriguing promises. We do like the small but meaty pan-seared crab cakes, but fried green tomatoes leave a lot to be desired---with panko, crumbled Stilton and chipotle aïoli, they're a mess of poorly integrated influences. Simple meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes is a solid choice, but fish is often overcooked to the point of mushiness. And though it features a few local brews, a self-styled pub should keep a broader selection on tap.
