 Czar Ice Bar Restaurant Review: Czar Ice Bar’s interior glows with a blue sheen and pulsates with high-decibel music. Portraits of czars, including Peter the Great, and paintings depicting the Winter Palace grace the walls. Servers will recite the brief and not especially inspiring wine list. They will also suggest selections from the vodka collection, which is much more exciting. Saké and a good number of beers are available, too. Chef Saito Saito was coaxed out of retirement to make the sushi for this establishment, and it is the menu’s primary offering. And while you might not have considered pairing vodka with sushi, it works. Start with tuna sashimi presented on a plate that is painted with edible designs created from appropriate foods and sauces. The lobster roll seemed to combine too many ingredients, but upon tasting it you’ll appreciate the studied balance of this mix: mango, lobster, avocado and cream cheese with a sweet chili sauce. There's a dessert "sushi" with cream cheese and a fruit sauce topping, but we suggest bypassing it to get your fill of sushi and rolls, along with chilled vodka. |
