Da Mimmo Restaurant Review: All Little Italy mourned the passing of Mimmo Cricchio, who founded thirty years ago the restaurant that bears his name. But his wife Mary Ann vowed to keep the Da Mimmo tradition alive, and has been its guiding light ever since. The orange-neon-edged eagle grabbing the earth in its talons on the outside of the building continues to say it all: flamboyance is the signature of this Sicilian restaurant. From the entry walls lined with signed celebrity photos to the wildly generous portions --- with prices to match --- to the occasionally you-don't-deserve-us service, the atmosphere is bacchanalian. House specialties like the gargantuan center-cut veal chop and the Cadillac-size lobster tetrazzini get mixed reviews, but the whole point is excess. When the kitchen hits its mark, food, scenery and swoony live Italian tunes combine for one exhilarating ride. Always, we repeat, always ask the price of the specials or that ride could end with a credit card crash. Option two is eating at the bar with a reduced price on the same restaurant dishes.
