| Progressive décor, agreeable service and an imaginative rotating menu that incorporates healthy local produce has kept the Daily Review Café on Houston’s culinary map. It certainly looks good with its revolving art exhibitions by Houston painters and an ambrosial herb garden from which many of its dishes get their seasonings. We like the warm spinach salad with pine nuts, endive, radicchio, roasted red peppers and feta cheese; and the chicken and fruit salad with tart citrus vinaigrette. Deftly prepared comfort-food dishes include crispy Southern fried chicken breast with buttermilk-mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas and crunchy corn relish; and pan-seared red snapper with masa spoonbread, grilled asparagus and poblano sauce. Also expect burgers, spiffy tacos, a pork sandwich and steak entrées. For dessert, tuck into the peach-blueberry cobbler garnished with fresh herbs. There’s a full bar, a well-rounded wine list and an inviting patio. |
