Dave’s American Bistro Restaurant Review: At first glance at its humble exterior, you might mistake Dave’s for a country-rural shack. Instead, its rustic interior and charming outdoor terrace provide the setting for some darned good---and very citified---vittles. Starters include fresh or fried oysters, a Filipino lumpia (egg roll), bistro wings, and a very smart smoked Gouda-and-chicken quesadilla. And it gets even better: big salads include a tasteful Caesar with a homemade dressing---top it with grilled chicken---and soups include Maryland crab and something called Kevin’s onion soup made with provolone. As for sandwiches, you can’t go wrong with the big, handsome burger topped with smoked Gouda, caramelized onions and crispy pancetta or the Eastern Shore crab cake patty on a soft roll with Old Bay aïoli. The cook goes out of his way to tempt appetites with his entrée array, and who could abstain from ordering grilled breast of chicken served with a fig stout sauce. You’ll even find a separate seafood menu with fried clams, steamed mussels, and the requisite fried calamari. The desserts, while not made on the premises, are prepared to order. The cheesecakes are standouts.
