: THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES TO TIMPANO TAVERN. The centerpiece of the lively 250-seat main dining room is a colorful hand-blown glass sculpture with a water feature flowing from the ceiling. The walls are sculptured Himalayan salt bricks, the wine room features floor-to-ceiling glass, and the chef’s table is near the open kitchen, which replicates David Burke’s recipes (executive chef Todd Stein has now departed the restaurant). Popovers in mini stainless steel pots are placed on the tables as guests are seated. Among appetizers, we like the pretzel-crusted crab cake with confit orange and poppy seed honey. Other favorites are day boat sea scallops Benedict with chorizo oil and lobster foam, and a chilled Maine lobster salad with mango, snap peas, cured olives, Serrano chili vinaigrette and lemon cream. Braised red snapper with leeks, enoki mushrooms and truffle is a winner, as is the Bronx-style filet mignon of veal with jack cheese polenta, cipollini onions and tarragon jus. New Zealand lamb chops are accompanied by caramelized onions and blue cheese fondue. Save room for the butterscotch panna cotta with curry cocoa jelly and meringue, and the organic apple shortcake with almond ice cream. And don’t miss Burke's artful cheesecake lollipop tree with bubblegum whipped cream. The Blueberry Thrill martini is created with Stoli blueberry vodka, fresh blueberries, fresh lime juice and rock candy syrup. The expansive wine list features 21 wines by the glass.
