 From its position in an upscale shopping mall, Davio’s serves not only as a respite from rigorous retail romps, but also as a good choice for business dining. One might partake of just the appetizers, and even then, a portion of calamari (albeit sans tentacles) is huge, and the sweet rings are crisp, with hints of fried cherry peppers and served with a lemon aïoli. Signature openers include the marchi, or tiny spring rolls, filled with savory ingredients. Among the many salads, we think the chopped is a standout. As this is an Italian steakhouse, pizza and pasta are prominent offerings. The latter may be ordered in appetizer portions, but that amount might suffice for a small main dish as well. The restaurant serves Brandt beef, a corn-finished meat that is produced without hormones. While steaks appeal, the short rib with a brown butter carrot purée turns our head. The sole lapse on one visit was with the scallops, which tasted fishy. For dessert, we suggest the vanilla bean panna cotta surmounted with simple fruits. The wine list is devoted to Italian choices, but represents other parts of the wine-growing world very well. Service is friendly and professional.
