| Amidst an army of California cheese, artisan breads and wine country olive oils is a perfectly Japanese deli. The sleek eating area, accented by blonde wood and stainless steel, includes a fantastic view of the bay. Patio tables are available outside on warm days. The expansive, modern deli case surrounds a bustling open kitchen. Large red platters are topped with salads that we have never considered including rosemary-roasted beets, arugula and Parmesan cheese. Julienne black seaweed is paired with bright green soybeans and mizuna greens. Chunky florets of broccoli and cauliflower are steamed, cooled and tossed in toasted sesame dressing. Kobe-style croquettes come in a variety of tastes, like the onion-y potato, plump shrimp cake, or petite sea scallop. Bento boxes can include endless variations of salads, spring rolls and lightly fried delicacies in the Japanese sozai tradition of meals made up of many small dishes. |
