Due Forni Restaurant Review

: Due Forni translates to "two ovens." One, fired at 900 degrees, cooks a Neapolitan-style chewy crust pizza in a mere 90 seconds; the other, at 500 degrees, bakes a Roman-style cracker-like crust in three minutes. The décor establishes a relaxed environment, with white-brick walls, wood tables, Edison-bulb lighting, large windows and al fresco dining via a comfortable patio area. Be sure to indulge in the mozzarella bar, which offers a selection of Italian fresh bufala mozzarella, with choices of delicate, smoked and creamy, served with roasted red peppers, basil pesto, olives, prosciutto, roasted tomatoes or marinated artichokes. The pizzas are true Italian versions, with eight unique creations. We like the rich tartufo --- black truffle, Parmesan crema, Fontina fontal, roasted cremini, and an over-easy baked egg spread on top when served. The powerful oven is also utilized for roasted specialties including sea bass, beef tenderloin and a daily special. The wine list features a generous selection of 40 Italian and American wines, two dozen of which are priced under $15 per glass. Finish with the “miracle dessert,” a 300-calorie cheese ice cream made from ricotta, honey and toasted pistachio --- the miracle being that it has so much flavor and so few calories.
