| Dumpling Inn continues to thrive among the many Convoy Street eateries largely because of the expansive menu of affordable Chinese treats. Dumplings are the lure, more specifically the xiaolongbao (aka soup dumplings). These hand-made pasta pockets contain ground meat and-or chopped vegetables (depending on your order) and an irresistible, savory broth. Crunchy pot stickers, shrimp-chive dumplings and fried curried beef wontons are also dependable choices. Make sure you order the spicy Szechuan dipping sauce to accompany any of these tiny treasures. The fiery eggplant entrée and the orange chicken are among the best mains; other strong recommendations include the green beans with shredded pork, sea bass in black bean sauce and honey fried shrimp. Adventurous types will enjoy trying (but probably not like) the rubbery jellyfish salad with daikon radish, carrots and cucumber in vinaigrette. Don’t expect much in the way of ambience, alcohol or friendly service; this is a bare bones operation, but it scores big points for authenticity. |
