| Rich, ruby-painted walls and a welcoming bistro spirit pervade this former Uptown duplex. As a restaurant and wine bar, the house is a neighborly place to order a reasonably priced meal and a glass of wine. Candlelight and fresh flowers keep it romantic; friendly servers make us feel comfy and relaxed. Dinners often commence with a complimentary amuse-bouche, and starters like the steamed mussels can even make a tasty meal. Still, for a good, palate-teasing jumpstart, we're partial to the roasted beet salad with pickled cukes and candied pistachios. Entrées include the bison l’allemand---Salisbury steak---served with garlicky herb butter and homespun mashed potatoes. It's comfort food with class. The black bean and shrimp slaw is an interesting blend of textures and flavors. Among the satisfying bistro desserts, don’t miss the moist strawberry bread pudding. |
