| Situated inside The Closet fashion boutique on busy Newport Boulevard, Eat Chow may be hard to find at first, but don’t give up trying to locate the real entrance off East 18th Street. The somewhat cramped dining room is showing its age a bit, although that also means locals like its contrasting woodsy-mellow and lively modern vibe. The venue has built a reputation for serving up fare featuring seasonal ingredients and reinvented comfort food classics. At breakfast, start with a morning cocktail or hard-to-find Kean Coffee. Don't miss the inventive omelets or the signature crunchy-and-creamy Mexican chilaquiles. At lunch, sandwiches and burgers can be accompanied by the truffle Parmesan fries or fried green tomatoes. More Southern-style food shows up on the plate at dinner, like fried chicken with five-cheese macaroni and cheese. Also, try the grilled chicken paillard and the tender hanger steak. |
