The fictitious Ed has done a fine job creating a tongue-in-cheek replica of a fifties diner, provided you like that sort of thing. (After all, the blasting rock 'n' roll music may drive you bonkers; the gum-chewing, sassy food-slingers may be a bit contrived; and the burgers may prove too greasy and uninteresting.) But Ed's is a “happening” spot that nonetheless enjoys a cult following --- at least among entertainment-starved families. And that greasy hamburger, well, it’s not half bad. When eating here, we head straight for the chili-topped version with a side of decent fries. We don’t recommend the meatloaf, though, and Ed really falls off his counter stool when it comes to desserts. There is also a location in Yorktown Center in Lombard.
