Empire Cafe Restaurant Review: This neighborhood café attracts an arty, urban mix of people who like to linger over coffee. Though it offers counter service only, the café makes the process easier with pleasing displays of daily specials. Breakfast features scrambled eggs with lox, gingerbread waffles and plump omelets. The lunch and dinner menu is filled with creative pastas, pizzas and panini on fragrant focaccia. Layer upon layer of towering cakes fill the dessert case. Though at peak times the kitchen can be slow and the coffee from the self-serve urns is not always as hot as we'd like it, the service staff is a cheerful, efficient crew. Plenty of outdoor seating and a limited beer and wine list. |
