| You’ll find a similar version of this restaurant in practically every seaside town in California. From the nautical-themed décor to clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl, it is totally predictable. Tourists are drawn to the historic building, located within walking distance of Stearns Wharf and downtown. They flock here for happy hour specials and, captured by the smell of a mesquite grill, stay for dinner. The menu offers a large selection of seafood and steak, most of which is exceedingly average in terms of quality and preparation, yet overpriced. Opt for local seafood: Santa Barbara spot prawns, thresher shark, white sea bass, California halibut. Most of the desserts---including molten chocolate cake, apple crisp and Key lime pie with a graham cracker crust---are made in-house. With the right order, you can salvage a reasonable dining experience. Service is generally poor, but a full bar and nice selection of local wines and microbrews ease the pain. |
