The Steakhouse at Equus Restaurant Review: Inside the FountainGrove Inn is this worthwhile, off-the-radar pick for Santa Rosa dining. Enter a cave-like foyer and await your table from a stylish, low slung white sofa against a rock wall. The dim dining room has a mod feel, with high-back crescent banquette clusters lit by glowing battery-op candelas and a step-up perimeter with more tables along a brick red wall. The kitchen handles seasonal starters with finesse: heirloom tomato and watermelon salad drizzled with white balsamic vinaigrette, pickled onions, feta and pepitas; mustard-crusted lamb pops with wild mushrooms on a bed of frisée; grilled shrimp skewers over truffled English pea purée. Tender bavette steak pairs well with roasted baby artichoke-asparagus salad and radish chimichurri. Brick chicken is served over fava bean and corn succotash in a rich caramelized shallot jus. For dessert, try the brownie sundae with salted caramel gelato, or opt for a nightcap at the lively lounge-bar in the adjoining wing.
