| Since 1977, Eulipia, named for a jazz song, has brought a hip note to the San Jose dining scene. Upstairs is a lively bar. Downstairs, the brick walls, modern art, candles, and white tablecloths set the stage for some tasty combinations. Lots of salads populate the eclectic menu; especially good is the roasted baby beets lightened by a citrus vinaigrette. A cashew crust enrobes the salmon filet, while the grilled rib-eye is a classic paired with garlic mashers and a Cabernet jus. We don't recommend the occasional-and-unusual-entrée of grilled ostrich with prawns, but prefer the ultimate pot roast made with tender beef cheeks. Endnotes include a root beer float and a lava chocolate cake. The outstanding wine list concentrates on the best of California and includes all the giants of the high-end Cabs. |
