| Southern California is hardly overflowing with Portuguese restaurants, so this delightful family-operated café is worth knowing about. Much of the menu is filled with pastas and panini (occasionally accented with chourico, Portugal's version of chorizo sausage), but the owners really celebrate their heritage with daily Portuguese specials like carne estufada (roast sirloin with a sweet pepper glaze) and the small nation's ubiquitous bacalao (salt-preserved cod). House-made desserts such as bread pudding and a flan-topped chocolate cake are definitely worth considering. Prices are rock-bottom and guests order at a counter, but dishes are artfully plated and delivered to a casual dining room that hints of good taste. |
